"That would be the correct assessment on both accounts, Professor Vantian." Soleil replied.
He paced briefly around the immediate area around the device, then stopped, raising one hand, pointing upward. "I have my reasons to want a privately funded researcher on my side. I will be straightforward in my explanation but, if you wish to ask questions I'll be glad to humor you, professor." The sheikah said as he placed his hand once more on his back.
"Hyrule is not a reliable base for any true progress, as I've concluded. So, I believe it is my best interest and duty to make a place that values it, and that will let it thrive. For that, I will need people of likewise thinking and varied talents, you being one of them, Professor Vantian." He then paused, letting Vantian speak up.

Vantian listened closely to what the other man said. A base outside Hyrule where he could do what he want? An intriguing idea, but was it even possible? A benefactor would greatly benefit his research, so even if he didn't believe the man could pull it off, he'd work with him to expand his research.
"An intriguing idea, Soleil", he replied. "One that indeed sounds rather tempting. While the progress with the new technology is coming along nicely, it is not properly expanded in my personal opinion, and a place such as you describe could allow for such expansion. However that is possibly beyond my limitations for the time being to construct, so let's start with something smaller, yes?".
He grabbed his notebook and prepared to take notes. "Anything in particular you had in mind?".

Soleil smiled faintly. "Professor, I would not waste your time with such trivial matters as construction work. I have crews working on it as we speak. This site is outside of the crown's jurisdiction, to send agents or soldiers to it would be an act of war."
He pondered for a moment afterwards before replying. "Technological progress is my goal. I have found very old records of a civilization long gone that had made great strides on that matter, in a time when the Gerudo Desert was a verdant place. For a few months now, I have had search teams seeking all sort of resources, but in particular, Timeshift technology. Stones that when extracted and refined can be made into portable devices to let us bring a region into a past state."
"This, I will use to make the city that I am building into a place where the baser resources will not be an issue. However..." Soleil gestured towards the researcher. "That is where you come in, Professor. While mercenaries can be somewhat reliable, loyalty is always a concern. So I would like you to think of and devise proper defenses and enforcement. Ways to have reliable and loyal defenders to protect what we are building."
"Because once this city comes into the world stage, I have no doubts that many covetous eyes will fall upon it, including Hyrule's." He paced closer towards Vantian. "And that is something that we must be prepared to deal with, Professor."

Vantian listened to what the other man was describing, taking notes where he deemed it relevant. "Timeshift stones you say? Stones that makes it possible to affect time? Most intriguing. I can think of a number of usages already". He put his notebook down and lifted up what looked like the eye of a beamos, holding it up so Soleil could see it. "Our brethren, the Shiekah Researchers, are working on something you could consider an upgraded version of these, known as a Beamos". Rubbing his hands together would seem too cliché, so he fought down the urge to do so. "I believe I have found a way to make them on a much bigger scale, and ALSO smaller, to make it into a handheld device capable of firing devastating arcs of energy at enemies, and all that is needed is a single soldier pulling a trigger".
He turned and faced M.A.I.D. "Also, I can make automatons that could handle defense and law-enforcement, Soleil. They do not require payment, food or sleep, and best of all, they are unquestionably loyal".

Soleil put a hand to his chin as he examined what the professor showed. "Fascinating, to be sure." His eyes shifted as he pondered the possibilities. "If you were able to make one such as that..." He said, gesturing to M.A.I.D., then moving his hand back towards the eye. "With one of those installed, say, on its head, I do believe we would have a formidable enforcer. Perhaps in a less...homely shell such as the model you have, something a bit more militaristic and stern."
He couldn't help but to smile briefly. "If you can produce such a thing, Professor Vantian, I would need but a list of the equipment and materials you require, and I would make you a facility in this site. Bigger than your current laboratory, made to your specifications, and capable of producing these...sentries in a good timetable."
The merchant paced closer to the scientist. "Think about this offer. A place of your own beyond the reprisal of people afraid to cross some boundaries in the name of progress. Your pick on assisting staff, or lack thereof if you prefer solitude. All that's required of you is that you assist me in this enterprise." He looked at Vantian, eye to eye. "I am spending my fortune down to the last rupee to see this realized, though like myself I believe you don't see money as your final goal...just a means of getting to where you want to be, is it not?"

Vantian listened to Soleil's suggestion, and yet again held back his emotions, this time a chuckle. "Mr.Soleil, you are clearly a man after my own mind. I have been doing some calculations for a weaponized version of M.A.I.D. She DOES have some weapons, to be honest, but nothing on the scale of the aforementioned invention. With your resources I will be able to construct them on a large scale and even more intelligent hybrids, a crossing of flesh and metal with the cunning of humans and lethality of machines. I accept your offer and I will bring with me the list of materials needed for such an endavour. Me and M.A.I.D need nothing but to know where to meet, and I will pack what I need and join up with you".
Needless to say, Vantian was still on his guard. He hadn't gotten as far as he did by trusting people, but giving M.A.I.D a few upgrades before heading off would probably make for sufficient protection should the entrepeneur try anything. Vantian had to admit he had a sort of professional respect for the man. He seemed to be of a similar mindset to the researcher, and he could respect that. There was no question that Vantian's intellect was superior, but Soleil was a man with wealth and visions, and Vantian's mind combined with such a man could work wonders. He really had everything to gain and nothing to lose, assuming of course that he man's words were nothing but empty promises.

The sheikah nodded, listening intently to the professor's explanation. "Most excellent. Do not worry, I have groups dedicated exclusively to seeking important components to our enterprise. Your needs shall be met, professor."
He walked away, giving the laboratory a casual glance. "As for our rendezvous, I have established operations in the Southern Oasis, in the Gerudo Desert." Soleil adjusted his cravat, sighing. "It was a complex set of negotiations, especially for a voe, but with the right incentives, the Gerudo Chief has given me claim to this piece of land." He gestured with his hand. "What matters is that this place is outside Hylian jurisdiction. Shall I arrange for transportation, or will you travel on your own, Professor Vantian?" He inquired.

The gerudo desert? An... interesting choice for certain, but it would keep the prying eyes of Hyrule away. The Oasis was a bit aways, but upgrading M.A.I.D would allow him to traverse the mountains with her as bodyguard, severly reducing traveling time. Starting to look for approriate clothing, he adjusted his glasses and spoke to his benefactor. "No need, Soleil. I will pack the things required and head across the mountains. I expect to be in the Oasis within a few days time. I will bring with me M.A.I.D and some blueprints and tools. Make sure a laboratory is prepared for my arrival so that I may get to work right away, I am not one for ceremonies and such frivolities. Time is money, as I am sure you are aware".
He started filling a traveling pack which he would naturally let M.A.I.D carry. It wasn't that Vantian was afraid of physical labour, but what was the point when he had an automaton which was severely stronger. "We will meet in the oasis then. I will bring with me a handheld version of the very communicator we are now using, so we will still be able to communicate, should the need arise. You know the frequency, do not hesitate to contact me if some new development appears that I must know", he said, making a slight bow and ending communications.
Vantian smirked. Finally! This was potentially his breakthrough! Those good-for-nothing people in Hyrule were cowards for not seeing the full potential of his experiments! He would show them, he would show them all!
Apart from the retractable armblades M.A.I.D had, Vantian decided to give her some upgrades. He commanded her to go to his workbench, where she lied down and he shut her down. He had an idea but he wasn't sure it would work, however he had not gotten this far by hesitating! He pulled out the very energy source he had worked with, the same one that fueled the creatures known as a "beamos" and put them next to him. He reinforced M.A.I.D's head with heat-resistant insulation, made from a mixture of steel, ice lizalfos scales and ice keese-wings. Finally, he inserted the two energy cores into her eye sockets and when they were safely fastened, he flipped the switch again, activating his bodyguard. "Maid. With this new upgrade.. Do you still have vision? Can you see?". The automaton turned her head to the left and right a couple of times, and if she had had eyelids, she probably would have blinked. "Affirmative, Master, I see you perfectly".
Holding back a triumphant shout, he simply clenched his fist in a victorious gesture. It had worked! The core would allow M.A.I.D to fire bursts of energy from her eyes, which would provide sufficient protection from whatever threats would appear. He then began packing (and putting on) warm clothing for the journey, as well as some alchemical concotions that would keep him warm. He was so delighted with his little experiment that he didn't realize he was whistling a merry tune as he was packing.

"Of course. I will see that a laboratory is set up within that timeframe." Soleil affirmed. "As far as living quarters go, however, I have set those as lower priorities in the construction. Similarly to my current accommodations, there will be a large tent with all the necessities. Once the high priority projects are concluded, you and I shall see about more permanent residential arrangements."
With that, he did a formal curtsy to Vantian. "We'll talk more details upon your arrival. Until then, Professor." With that, his image faded away.

Vantian kept packing some belonings for a while, enough relevant items to fill two knapsacks. With M.A.I.D's new upgrade, she could carry one on her back and one over her shoulder. The last thing he did was hang Research and Development in his belt, as well as making sure his flintlock pistol was loaded and ready, as well as bringing additional ammunition. He was by no means a fighter, but if he needed to defend himself, he would. As a gift for his new benefactor, he brought with him the prototype beamos-blaster he was working on, a sort of mix of a crossbow and flintlock weapon that could fire bolts of energy, the very thing he had spoken to Soleil about.
"Perfect. M.A.I.D, you can wait outside, I have one last preparation to make". The automaton nodded and headed out the door. Vantian headed into a secret alcove, now completely empty save for a very odd-looking bomb that he placed in the middle, carefully rolling out the fuse. This was his plan B if his laboratory was ever compromised, but since he was leaving now, possibly forever, it was time to use it. The things he had packed was enough that he'd lose at most a month of research, and everything that remained could be replaced.
He took one last look at his lab, considering if he wanted to do this. He chuckled a little himself as he realized being sentimental was for fools, as he struck a match and tossed it over his shoulder, lightning the fuse.
Vantian adjusted his glasses as a loud boom erupted behind him, and a small smile crept up on his face as an inferno raged behind him. That firebomb would burn out EVERYTHING, leaving nothing but soot and melted metal behind. Perhaps an extreme move, but he hadn't gotten where he was without taking risks. He began the steep climb up towards the Gerudo Highlands. There was no need for the winter attire just yet, but he made sure M.A.I.D was close as he ascended the mountains, towards his destiny.
*To the Gerudo Highlands*
