Shiek's Theme
Name: Sheik
True Identity: Princess Ziel Hyrule. Only a few people know of Sheik's true identity. Those people are: The King, his closest advisor, Impa, and of course her sister, Zelda.
Species: Hylian
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Physical Appearance:
When it comes to appearance, Ziel is as close to identical to her twin sister Zelda as it gets. If you were to dress them up in the same clothes and put them next to each other and give Ziel the same haircut as her sister, only someone who knew them well would be able to tell them apart.
Her height is the roughly the same as her sister, standing in about 5'5 (165 cm), but Ziel's body type is more athletic and well trained than Zelda's.
That being said, there ARE some differences. Sheik uses magic to disguise her appearance a little. For example, her eyes are red instead of olive green and her blonde hair is waist-length and tied up in a tight braid, whereas Zelda's hair is shorter and not braided.
When it comes to clothing, Sheik has bandages wrapped around her legs, her wrists, her fingers and her chest to allow for more athletics and acrobatic movement without interruptions. She also wears bandage wrapped around her head to disguise her appearance, almost in a scarf-like manner. Apart from that she wears a bodysuit in two tones of blue, a darker blue and a lighter tone, as well as wearing armguards and legguards, as well as shoulderguards.
On the front of her chest the Sheikah symbol is visible in red on a grey background. All the tones of blue help her blend into the shadows better at night.
Personality-wise Ziel is a bit different from Zelda. She is disciplined, more straight to the point and matter-of-factly, as well as having less qualms about hurting or even killing enemies, although it's rarely her first approach to a fight. She tends to incapacitate her foes if possible, but won't hesitate to kill if needed.
Sheik full-body appearance:
Sheik without her mask:
Background: The Queen of Hyrule gave birth to two identical twin girls, Ziel and Zelda. However, Zelda is a few seconds older than Ziel (but don't point that out to her, she'll get mad as she insists they are equally old), she was nevertheless robbed of the fate of inheriting the throne, as that fell upon her older sister. As they grew up it was rather obvious they were similar, yet different. They looked the same, sounded more or less the same, but they acted completely different. While Ziel was taught the manners of a noblewoman just like her sister, such as to read, to play the harp and even to sing, she, knowing she would always play second fiddle to her sister, wanted something else. She was fascinated by the Sheikah and their duty to protect the royal family and her idol as a kid was Impa, the leader of the Sheikah tribe.
As time passed Ziel realized what she wanted to to with her life. As she would never inherit the throne and the life of a noblewoman made her want to vomit, she persuaded her father to join the sheikah. Where her sister had always had an affinity for Light magic, it had never worked for Sheik no matter how much she tried, but Impa had tried teaching her some shadow magic to great success, which further helped persuade her father. They came up with the idea that they would spread a false rumor that Ziel was being married off to a nobleman in a far off land, so Ziel would disappear and she would become Sheik, protector of the royal family, protecing the realm with the Shadows where her sister protected it with the Light.
Impa took her under her tutelage and taught her both to use her shadow magic and the skills of a ninja. However, much to Sheik's dismay (at least at first), Impa came up with the idea to make Ziel her sister's doppleganger (more so than she already was), so she had Shiek further train in the arts of playing the Harp and singing, as well as teaching Ziel to alter her appearance with magic so that if she wore a similar dress to Zelda, she could fool people to believe she was her sister.
Shiek was an eager student and rapidly became a highly skilled ninja, excelling at fighting with speed and precise attacks, rather than brute strength. She also studied the history of Hyrule and wanted to learn as as possible about the realm and the approaching threat of Calamity Ganon so she could travel the realm and assist whatever heroes she comes across.
To this day, people speak of a mysterious ninja girl who often seems to appear from nowhere, assist heroes lost on their journey, be it with wisdom or lending them a hand, and then disappearing as fast as she arrived. When an enemy of Hyrule pops up, be it bandits, monsters or what-have-you's, Sheik is often found there as well, serving as an assassin or simply assisting in dealing with the threat in any way she can.
Relevance:
Sheik is rather relevant to the story, seeing as she does whatever she can to assist her father (and the entire royal family as well as the Sheikah) to protect the realm and keep it safe from threats. What she has at stake is of course the realm itself, should Calamity Ganon rise, or another threat, as well as if someone was to learn her true identity as a princess of Hyrule, she could become a target from the very same enemy in attempts to weaken the Royal Family. Being related to the King and to Zelda, she is often with them, doing the same work as they are.
Skill Set:
Jutsus: Sheik is trained in two types of Jutsu, namely Taijutsu and Ninjutsu. This makes Sheik a highly adept Martial Artist, able to utilize rapid and precise punches, kicks, blocks and parries to damage her enemies, as well as acrobatic movement. Her Ninjutsu training allows her to perform frontflips, backflips, sideflips and even run up walls, as well as executing accurate attacks when using light throwing weapons such as the kunai and shurikens.
Shadow Magic: Having been trained by Impa herself, Sheik has a portfolio of useful Shadow Magic spells and effects at her disposal. She can use it empower herself, allowing her to move slightly faster than most. It is also what allows her to run aacross water and other flat surfaces, and even wall jump, although only for a short distance. Below are her most prominent magical abilities:
- Cloak of Shadows: Using the powers of darkness, Sheik can blend into the nearby shadows, making her a lot harder to spot (not impossible, but harder), allowing her to hide more succesfully than others. This magic also muffles her steps, allowing her to move without making any sound, and leaving no footprints behind if she so desires.
- Dark Binding: Sheik is so aligned with the darkness that she can use it to mend her wounds. This causes her to be able to heal her injuries more rapidly than most, and she can even mend broken bones (but not severed ones). HOWEVER, this only ever so slightly increases the speed at which she heals. Mere bruises heal in minutes, flesh wounds and more serious ones heals in hours, and broken bones or even ribs heal in a manner of a day. This does NOT make her any harder to kill than any other person, it only means she comes back swinging faster than most.
In order to use this ability to its full potential, the less strained Sheik is, the more effective it is, meaning that it is more or less useless in combat (but still in effect, although at a MUCH slower rate), and this ability is mostly used when out of combat, allowing Shiek to recover from injuries more quickly. If Sheik is getting peaceful, undisturbed sleep, her healing speed is greatly increased.
- Dark Discipline: This dampens Sheik's sense of pain, allowing her to keep fighting a little longer.
- Shadow wrap: Sheik wraps her hands and feet in shadow magic, allowing her to hit armors, rocks and other hard surfaces without sustaining as much damage to her hands or feet as she normally would. (Note that this does not deal any 'additional damage' or makes her hit harder, it just allows her to hit armors unarmed without hurting herself).
- Weapons of Darkness: Sheik can take the shadows around her and form them into kunai and shuriken which she uses to fight with, more often than not she utilizes them as throwing weapons to distract or hit a vital spot more than using them as her main weapon.
RP-related skill Set:
Altering Darkness*: Sheik can use magic to slightly alter her appearance, such as her eye color, some facial and bodily features, or change her hair color or it's length, as well as change the pitch of her voice up or down, sounding more like her sister, or less like her. This allows her to further enhance her disguise but is mostly used to hide her olive-green eyes (since they are more or less identical to Zelda's in appearance, but the red eyes throw people off from realizing this), and she would also use this ability to become almost 100% identical to her sister, fooling anyone who doesn't know Zelda very well, of course assuming she is wearing the same outfit. The main reason she developed this ability was to be a stand-in for Zelda whenever needed.
Deku Nuts: This allows Sheik to throw a blinding deku nut to blind whomever is nearby, allowing her to disappear. In combat this ability is next to useless, as most enemies would see it coming and have time to shield their eyes (unless a player decides otherwise), and is mostly used for story purposes (also with player permission even when used for story purposes).
Harpist: Ziel/Sheik is an accomplished Harpist, able to play the Harp with great skill. While she's not much for giving performances, if you're nice enough and ask nicely, she might.
Lorekeeper: Ziel/Sheik has studied the history and heraldry as well as the known bestiary of Hyrule, allowing her to shed light (pun intended) upon historical events, people and monsters across the realm.
Singer: Ziel's voice is ever so slightly darker than Zelda's voice, but she is nevertheless considered to have a beautiful singing voice.
*This ability IS active in combat as well, put provides no bonus of any sort, it's kind of a passive, cosmetic ability.
