Name: Rukaal
Species: Rito
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Physical Appearance and Personality:
Rukaal is a young and agile rito. His feathers are a golden brown, and his athletic body stands about 1.85m tall (6'1). His eyes are a deep brown, and his beak is golden yellow, with a little black spot at the end. Rito tend to be resemble various types of birds, Rukaal resembles an eagle. Where his brethren often have wings with feather-like fingers on them, Rukaal has more human-like fingers with feathers on his elbows and underarms. He wears dark brown pants, a black vest and a grey and black-striped scarf.
While Rukaal is no stranger to violence he prefers to not try and kill anyone and the only really lethal weapon he has are his claws. He prefers to use his air magic to knock people unconcious or disarm them to render them harmless. He is not a pacifist per se, just not one prone to violence and sees it as a last resort, instead preferring to talk his way out of situations.
Background: Rukaal was born and raised in the Rito village. Already at a young age he was noticed for his appearance and his charming personality. He was a fun-loving, adventerous and charismatic young bird, who loved jumping, soaring and going on adventures. His fondness for magic came when the little Ritos were learning to ride the wind. He excelled in his class with ease at a level that seemed unnatural for them all, and it soon became clear he was manipulating the air around him to soar longer and faster than the others. The Rito are no strangers to warriors, and Rukaal with his newfound powers was offered to train with them as his air magic could become very useful. They began teaching him to use a sword, but he didn't enjoy it. The metal felt cold and dead in his hands and instead he prferred to use his own body as a weapon which felt more natural to him.
They started training the young Rito in the Martial Arts, and noticed again that he was good at it, as well as training him to control his air magic. While all of this was going on, he was still helping around the village as much as he could, laughing and smiling all the way. He was compassionate, charismatic and kind, and many of the Rito suggested he'd participate in the rites that allowed the winner to be trained by their best and wisest mentor, the owl names Striggy.
When the competition came up, Rukaal fought hard and fair and eventually emerged the victor, thus winning the privilege to be trained by the wise old owl.
To this day, Rukaal is still in training under his mentor, doing all he can to become the best he can be.
Relevance: Being the Champion of the Rito people, Rukaal's relevance is rather great, as he will play a major role in fulfilling the tasks of the champions.
Skill Set:
Fighting style: Eagle's Claws.
Rukaal can defend himself in melee combat using the claws and the end of his hands. These are very sharp but they lack in range and are not nearly as powerful as his air manipulation, so he prefers to use it only if he has to.
Martial Arts: Grace of Air style: Combining his air manipulation with martial arts, such as kicks and punches, Rukaal becomes a dangerous foe excelling at both melee and range combat, aerial combat, and abilities to manipulate and control the battlefield.
Air manipulation: Rukaal can bend the air around him, manipulating it to perform incredible feats of acrobatics or air-magic. Below are a few, but not all, of the things he can do with his air manipulation..
He can leap very high and far, soar farther than most of his comrades, and propel himself up in the air with it, as well as bend the air around him to run very fast. He can create balls of air for him to ride on at high speeds, he can punch air-blasts at his foes that, while they aren't considerably lethal, can send enemies flying, knocking them prone or knock their weapon out of their hands.
He can manipulate the vibration of soundwaves, allowing him to emit a loud eagle-screech that can temporarily deafen his opponents (with their permission), leaving them with ringing ears. It can also be used to warn people. If he uses it at full power, it can knock people off their feet and might even cause their ears to start bleeding.
Champion Ability: Rukaal's Vortex
One of his most, if not THE most powerful ability he has, is his Vortex-ability. It creates a vortex of air around him, repelling light ranged attacks and some of the more weaker spells, as well as providing him with a shield made of air magic. It does not repel heavier ranged attack (such as siege weapons or ballistas), or spells that affects a larger area, although it might lessen their effect slightly.
