Somewhere in the Wetlands

The sun was shining down on the marshlands of Lanayru. A light breeze moved the reeds and a melody could be heard in the wind.
The shallow water splashed as curious footsteps wandered in, drawn by the singing. A zora that had been traveling downstream, but now was enraptured by the sound. She looked around, trying to find the source, yet it seemed to elude her gaze. It sounded as though a person were here, yet as far as the eye could see there was no one in sight. This only made her curiosity stronger, as she kept walking through the wetlands.
It was almost by fortune that she stumbled upon something and found her answer. Or perhaps, misfortune, if she were able to know just what she had gotten herself into. The singing was coming from a mask, strange and heart shaped, with colorful spikes. She furrowed her brows, and hesitated for a moment but felt compelled to grab the artifact.
As soon as she did so, the zora could see the eyes shift and look straight into hers. She gasped and tried to let go of it, yet her hand would not do so.
"Hey, don't be alarmed! This is your lucky day!" Majora spoke in an upbeat tone. "I'm a special mask--"
She tried her hardest and managed to fling the mask away from her hands, and watched it land several feet away in the water, face down. Placing a hand on her chest, she sighed with relief and closed her eyes for a moment. Was that thing cursed? She had a bad feeling about it.
As soon as she looked at it again, the mask was flipped back upwards in the water, though as still as before. This was definitely a cursed item. Or at least, something that didn't belong here. But this made her decisions more complicated. If she let this be, someone really dangerous could get their hands into it. But...holding it again would have it speak to her, and who knows what else.
After a few minutes in an internal debate over whether to grab the mask or not, she decided to grab it. She would find a way to dispose of it properly somewhere no one would find it, maybe even bury it deep in the ocean.
Once again, the mask seemed to spring to life when she held it. "Okay, I can't say that wasn't a little rude, but I'm willing to let bygones be bygones. Because you've saved me!"
"I didn't save you. You're a demon, and I'm going to make sure you don't bother anyone anymore." The zora retorted.
"Hey, hey...no need for all this hostility. Whoever said anything about demons? I'm a wish-granting mask. I can make your dreams come true~" Majora retorted.
"I wish you would go away." She said, frowning.
Majora rolled its eyes and laughed. "That's a good one. I like you. Seriously though, I'm sure you have something you desire. Someone who died that you want back? Riches? Love? Have the moon come crashing down into the earth?"
She decided to walk back to the river, then figure out what to do with the mask, not dignifying it with a response.
A while later, however, the mask looked up. "You want justice, don't you. To do good, to have the power to do good. I can give you that power, too."
Even if she wasn't looking, she could feel its piercing gaze on her. And though she wanted to ignore it, it was getting difficult. Maybe it was the nature of this cursed thing, but it was exhausting to ignore it, this disembodied voice echoing in her head. "As if a demon like you could do that." She replied.
"Hey, again. Not a demon here. If I had a pinky, I'd promise with it. Think about it. If you're wielding my power, someone who is bad can't wield it, right? So even if I were a demon with dark powers, you would be wielding them...so you could use them for justice and peace and...whatever else people like you enjoy doing. Better than trying to hide me somewhere, because I may be a mask, but I can find a way to find someone..."
She didn't know if it was the mask's power or her own reasoning, but it was sounding...modestly sensible. She stopped and looked at the mask. "So...if I wield you, I'll choose how to use your powers. No tricks?"
"Yep, pretty much. Just put on the mask and my powers are yours to use." Majora answered.
The zora hesitated for a moment, but eventually she caved in, putting on the mask.
"Oh, silly me. I forgot one important detail. Yes, you'll choose how to use my powers but..." Majora laughed. "It's kind of embarrassing, really...my powers kind of corrupt you so I guess you won't want to do good after all, huh?"
"You deceitful--!" She tried to remove the mask, but it was too late, the darkness it wielded was unleashed, and the Zora and Majora were almost melded into a single being.
She paused for a moment, smiled and laughed. "Hmm, I guess it is funny. Mm, still. Ultimate power. Feels pretty good."
