The blizzard was howling outside like a hungry pack of wolves as a figure plodded her way through the snow towards the little cabin. The climate was harsh, with blizzards and predatory wildlife, but the Lokomo Princess Siuan Valfross had grown accustomed to it. She was hesitant at first when she and Anna got married and the other woman built their cabin. Siuan had never liked cold weather but she adapted quickly and had grown to love the place.
She was carrying four rabbits on her back, having been out hunting before the blizzard hit, and four rabbits was all she was able to get. She had left her sword, Life's Order, at home and had wielded only a bow for her hunting trip. It was still a decent yield and they HAD food to spare so they weren't desperate. Nevertheless, she wanted to make something special for her beloved, whom should have arrived home by now, and she knew Anna appreciated the Spicy Rabbit Stew Siuan had learned to cook.
With a few grunts Siuan FINALLY reached the door, managed to find the key and opened the door. As she got inside she shut the door behind her with a deep sigh. As she looked around the first thing she noticed was Anna's snow-covered boots next to the door, and her heart leapt with joy as she realized her wife WAS indeed home. She gently placed the rabbits down on the table, still looking around the cabin, and noticed her wife. She was lying on their bearskin-rug that they had by the fireplace, curled up almost like a cat. Gods.. She looks so serene and beautiful.., Siuan thought to herself and smiled.
Seeing her beloved lying there, so tranquil by the fireplace while the storm howled outside made Siuan feel snuggly. She locked the door and doffed her armor, hanging her coat on a hook next to their bed and grabbed a blanket from it. She then made sure to warm her hands so they weren't freezing cold before she curled up behind her wife, wrapping her arms around the other woman, gently caressing her stomach. It was too rare this, that Siuan relaxed, took the time to just.. exist, but now was such a moment. She listened to the howling wind and the crackling fire and enjoyed the moment lying there with the most beautiful woman she had ever known.
"Hello, gorgeous", she said quietly, her exhaustion audible in her voice, along with affection. "Welcome home, I brought us dinner", she said. At this very moment in time, Siuan felt rather tranquil, almost as if she had never experienced enough war to last her a lifetime, as if she didn't have scars to back up that same experience. Siuan leaned her forehead against Anna's back while she kept snuggling the other woman. At this very moment... Life felt perfect and she hoped the moment would never end.

Anna didn't get many chances to relax. The work of a guardian dragon was rough, even in the last decades of peace. But in between her days-long flights and visits, she would sometimes just get the chance to reach her little home in the tundra, and lay by the fireplace. Sometimes, she wondered what people would say if they saw the Guardian Firosk, curled by a fire and dozing the evening away.
She barely even perked up when the door open, but she knew from the noises and scents that her love had returned from her hunt. Not that she thought for even a moment that a blizzard could stop Siuan in her tracks, but... she still managed to worry.
Even as Siuan laid behind her, Anna slowly adjusted herself so her wife could be more comfortable. She reached for one of the arms that had snaked its way around her, lightly touching her hand. "Welcome home to you too, my love." Even all this time later, there were still no better words to her than that last one. "Mn, thank you. But can it wait? You just got comfortable."

Siuan cuddled up a little more, and when Anna brushed her hand, she felt how warm and cozy the other woman was, and gently kissed her neck. "Mmm... always the considerate one", she mumbled with a little giggle. "I intended to wait anyway, I'm far too cozy to go anywhere". After that, she fell silent and grabbed the other woman's hand, enjoying the moment, the peace and quiet. Unless Anna said anything, Siuan was quiet for at least a minute before she spoke. "When are you leaving next time?", she asked. Her tone was in no way accusatory, it was very matter-of-factly, but maybe there was little hint of sadness that Siuan failed to hide. Siuan had accepted that her wife disappeared for days at a time in her guardian duty, and knew it would happen even when they married, but she had chosen to live with this woman, and given a thousand opportunities to choose again, she'd pick this same option every time.

Anna squeezed Siuan's hand, hesitating for a moment. She'd had... visions, she supposed, recently. Of something dark, something terrible. Something that threatened to bring the last decades of peace to a crashing halt. "I don't know. It could be soon. I've... had a bad feeling, love. That something's coming. Worse than Thorodan was, worse than the Ministry." She didn't want it to happen. She'd had more than enough of war, and only wanted to watch over the people of the land.

Siuan let out a very deep sigh, it was the sigh of someone who had experienced and survived war, it was not a happy sound, it was a sound containing the burden of more than one lifetime. The samurai did not doubt her wife's bad feeling, Anna was infinitely more wise than Siuan, and her words usually bore truth. "Something even more worse than the ministry and Thorodan? Perfect.. Just what we need. I assume you are going to have to travel to stop whatever it is? If so, I am coming with you", she said, in a tone that did not take no for an answer. "Do you have any idea what it is?".
Siuan was getting out of cuddle-mood and into soldier-mood. As much as she despised war and conflict, it would be nice to travel and stretch her muscles a bit.

Anna sighed as well. "I... truth be told, I don't know. I've had enough, you know? Of fighting, of war. I just want to stay in our home, with you, forever. I know I'm being selfish. And I know the day may come where I don't really have a choice anymore. But I married you, not Hyrule. I want to put you first."
She squeezed Siuan's hand. She wasn't being realistic at all. She knew that, and she was certain her wife did too. But was it really so wrong for her to want to spend more time with the one she loved?

As Anna squeezed Siuan's hand, the grizzled veteran returned the favor. She too wanted no more war, she wanted to spend every day in this cabin, far away from the problems of the world. However, it wasn't possible to do so, as they both had responsibilities.
She enjoyed the moment for a couple of breaths, before responding. "I knew full well the responsibilities you had when I married you, and as much as I try to escape it as well, I am still a princess of Froshemdel and defender of Hyrule. I too have a duty to fulfill. I want to put you first as well, always and forever, beloved, but even though we both want to stay here and leave Hyrule to its own problems... We can't forsake our duties, the best we can do is face them together, at least that way we are still with each other".
She gave her beloved a playful kiss on her neck and moved down a little along her back. "I've had enough of war too, I've had enough of fighting, and had far too many near-death experiences for my liking", she mumbled, first looking at her prostethic arm and then dragging a finger over the place where she, a lifetime ago, had been stabbed not only once, but several times, by her mentor at the time, Vorgath, the same spot where she had taken a javelin for the queen at the time.
Siuan sat up before speaking again. "Whenever you need to leave, I'm coming with. I'll follow you to the end of the world and back if need be, just say the word", she said, doing her best to keep her old, soldier-y determination out of her voice. It was a part of herself she hated. She was a warrior for sure, one of the best fighters in both Hyrule and Froshemdel, but she was in two minds about that.
On the one side, she was no dragon and had no fancy magic like so many others, so the stronger she was, the easier it was to protect those she loved, even if it meant she'd have to train until her body roared in protest, the stronger she got, the more she could be equally useful to Anna and those as powerful as her, she was nobodys burden.
On the other hand, she would glady bury her sword and spend the rest of her life a farmer, cooking, hunting on occasion, maybe taking up a profession, but she knew full well that would most likely never happen.
All of those thoughts flew through her mind with alarming speed, and when she snapped back to reality, she looked at the rabbits she had brought in from her hunt. "I'll start dinner now, you just take it easy and gather your strength, my love".
She got up to a standing position and headed over to the tiny little kitchen they had. The cabin wasn't large, but it was OH so comfortable, and she loved it dearly, despite it sometimes feeling rather small, but she wouldn't have it any other way.
"Do you plan to take the subtle approach and go by horse, or do we travel by other means?". She was basically asking whether or not her wife would transform to a dragon and fly to wherever she was going, or traveling incognito, as either method of travel had its benefits as well as its detriments.
Siuan rolled up her sleeves and began to skin the rabbits while putting water to boil as well. She was working with a soldiers typical efficiency, but she didn't want any bloodstains or rabbit hair on her clothes, so she put on an apron and put her hair up in her typical ponytail style before getting to work.
Her mood had improved severely from the somber demeanour it had been when she came in from the hunt, and she was humming happily to herself as she worked. "By the way, if you want to, my beautiful rose, you can open up a bottle of wine, I think we deserve to spoil ourselves a little, right?". Siuan had to contain her laughter once she had finished her sentence. 'My beautiful rose'?, she thought to herself. 'Listen to yourself, Siuan! The sappiest woman in Hyrule! Well.. If she does mind, I hope she tells me how much of a sappy fool I am, and if she doesn't.. I'll think of something even MORE lovey-dovey', she thought to herself, now fighting VERY hard not to laugh, smiling widely to herself where she was working.

"It's naive of me, I know. I'll make my way, and likely much sooner than I want to. And though it's more than I should ask of you, I would be happy to have you by my side. So I can keep you safe." Anna brought Siuan's hand up to her lips and lightly kissed it. Her mind briefly went to other places she'd like to kiss Siuan, but she quickly shook her thoughts out of her head. She was the guardian dragon, not a nervous twelve-year-old on her first date. Still, she supposed she didn't mind the fact that thinking of Siuan and her beauty was still so exciting to her, even more than a century after their wedding.
"This time, I'll be leaving in my traveler's guise." Siuan knew what Anna meant - that she'd be traveling as her old Hylian form, even hiding away her scales. It was tough to maintain, but Anna would do so for as long as she needed to, until the time it was best for her to reveal her true self.
Anna stood up as well, and followed Siuan into their small kitchen. Though the cabin couldn't even come close to fitting her in her dragon form, she had other places to rest when she needed to. This small place, with the land outside, was absolutely perfect for spending quality time with her soulmate. She stood behind Siuan and slowly wrapped her arms around her waist, nuzzling into her back.
"Oh, I agree, so I think I will spoil myself a little bit." Anna moved Siuan's ponytail aside so that she could better kiss the back of her neck, then flutter her lips across to her shoulder, humming all the while. "Oh, my dove, have I told you how beautiful you are lately?" She lets out a little giggle as she does her best to match the sap her wife is lettign out.

When Anna said she wanted Siuan with her to keep her safe, she couldn't help but realize how right her spouse was. Siuan was a capable, powerful warrior, even more so now when she had unlocked her true powers, but Anna was a DRAGON, how could anyone compete with THAT? Not that she minded, the protecting would go both way. "Of course I'll come with you, what else would I do? Stay here alone in this cabin in the middle of nowhere? I'd go crazy from loneliness". As the other woman mentioned she'd go in her traveler guise, Siuan smiled. "Ah, so we'll be traveling incognito then. Nice. Tell me when we're leaving and I'll go prepare the horses".
As Anna walked up behind Siuan and kissed her, being all sappy, the samurai made a disgusted grimace at what she heard. "Ugh. Is that what I sound like? I'm sorry, I really AM the sappiest woman in Hyrule, I'll stop doing it. I DO love you though, never forget that".
Now cutting vegetables and the rabbits, the water was boiling as she brought out some spices from the spice rack as well. "I repeat: I'll fix the stew, you just relax, do feel free to snuggle, though, I do like that. IF you want to help, you could get me two things: A glass of wine and a kiss, it's the chef's due".
Putting the vegetables to boil, and preparing to pre-fry the rabbit before putting in it the pot as well, she grunted. "Shit, I'm still doing it, sorry". Siuan almost never swore, only when she was getting angry with someone, especially herself.

Anna frowned. She knew full well what that swearing meant, Siuan was angry at herself. And she didn't want that, not ever. She wanted her to see herself how she saw her. She reached up to cup her wife's cheek, and pulled her in to kiss her long and softly. "Please, no apologies, not for that. There's a difference between knowing you love me, and hearing it from your lips. And hearing it from your lips always makes my heart flutter so..." She smiled, light filling her eyes as she gazed into Siuan's. "So what if we sound a little sappy? It's not like anyone's going to hear us. And even if they did, who would dare object?"
"We'll leave in the afternoon tomorrow. I'd like to speak with the leaders of each nation, to get an overall picture of what's happening across the land. It'll be like a sightseeing trip," Anna said with a chuckle. "Only I'll be acting as Firosk the guardian dragon, and not a sightseeing traveler. One of these days we'll need to go on a trip for just ourselves..." She squeezed Siuan around her waist.
