Female
Physical Appearance:
Background:
How does one begin to recollect the life of one of Hyrule's most powerful people? Not in terms of strength, or even magic, but in terms of social position and status. Nineteen years ago, the queen of Hyrule gave birth to a set of twins. Two girls, of which the first was traditionally named Zelda and the other Ziel. As she was the oldest, Zelda was destined to one day lead Hyrule in the capacity of Queen. The two siblings were always very close, but where Ziel was more fascinated by the traditions of the sheikah the older of the sister took to her future role with the grace that was expected of her. Many of her lessons revolved around political studies, how to run a country. But also such vital skills as language, trade, law, geography, history and magic. For Zelda her life was in large part filled with these studies, spending many hours with private tutors from all different tribes and races of Hyrule.
Most parts of her life were very public, and because of this she often tried to do things on her own when no one else was watching. The pressure from those around her was immense, and there were a few times when she would have wanted to trade places with Ziel. In the end, she did not want to disappoint, not the people and certainly not their father. The King was never unkind, and he was always very encouraging towards her, speaking highly of her abilities and growing skills. Even if his intentions were noble, and he did it out of love, this created more pressure on Zelda to live up to these expectations. But she found ways in which to get away from this life, if only for a few hours at a time.
Today it is uncertain which one of the sisters came up with the idea to sneak away from the castle in disguises. If asked, most would assume it was Ziel's idea. Truth be told, it could have been Zelda's initiative as much as her sister. It was when the two girls ventured away from the castle that they found out that life in the town was not so perfect as it might have appeared from inside the safety of the castle walls. Poverty, orphans and other such things happened. Zelda could understand that her father's hands were tied, and he could not risk breaking with the ruling elite of Hyrule, or there would be a civil war without end.
At the age of 10, her father began to give her private lessons in magic. Helping her to connect with the powerful light that was growing inside of her, being as much a part of her as her bloodline. But these lessons also made Zelda wonder about her own place in the world, and her own role. Was she just another Zelda in a long line of Queens and princesses that came before?
As a young teenager (spurred on by her encounters in the poor districts of Hyrule) she started to show an interest in education for those who could not afford it for themselves. She helped fund a school, connected to an orphanage. The Golden Princess was what people called her, loved her for what she did. The consequence from this was that other's claimed she only did this as a way to gain popularity and that her feelings on the subject were all fake. It hurt when such rumours reached her ears, but it was not a surprise.
As mentioned before her magic had always been there, and she had skills beyond her years. But, the turning point that came to define her happened three years ago, on the night of the 16th birthday. The dream was dark, and she found herself walking through the castle late at night, everything bathing in the light of a moon red as blood. A feeling of dread came over her that day, an evil that defied reason and threatened to consume everything. It had a name, the evil she saw, Ganon, and the calamity it was going to bring. That night everyone in the castle awoke to a terrified scream, and they found Princess Zelda in the throne room, unconscious on the floor. The ground around her seared by the power of her light magic and every window in the room shattered. She did not wake up until three days later, having been in a state of coma that no one could explain.
After she awoke, she told her father about the dream she had, or rather the vision she had been shown. Ganon was going to return, and it was only a matter of time before it happened. For Zelda, it awakened dormant cognitive abilities of the Goddess, making her dreams show the future of Hyrule and the events that were going to happen. In all, she was shown what the gods wanted her to see. Which created a fair share of sleepless nights for the young princess, and the dreams continued to trouble her greatly. So far she has been unable to tell when Ganon will return, or how they might stop him, which has been increasingly annoying.
Relevance:
As the reincarnation of the goddess, Princess Zelda is a vital part of the story. Her dreams with their prophetic nature are hard to ignore, and their focus is largely on the scale of Hyrule as a whole. Her main purpose is a driving force to help the plot move forward, and be tied to events as they take place.
Skill Set:
The Power of Nayru: Like those who came before her, Zelda is another reincarnation of the Goddess Hylia. Hylia sacrificed her immortality in order to live out her life among her people, going through a cycle of rebirth and appearing again in history during times of peril and turmoil. This shows itself in her connection with light, along with her innate psychic potencies, such as telepathy and precognition. Most of these perceptive abilities can be attributed to the power of the Triforce of Wisdom, heightening her wisdom and ability to learn. She is able to cast spells engender or annul barriers and seals. She is not trained in the usage of magic to harm, and most of her spells are therefore focused on protection. The source of most of her natural light based powers could be explained by the presence of the Light Force, a power that is passed down through the Royal Family of Hyrule for generations. The precognition part of her powers only awakened three years ago, and she does not control what she sees, she sees what the gods want her to see.
Golden Princess: As the future monarch of Hyrule, it has been vital for Zelda to learn all the things a future Queen will need to know. She has been tutored in many different fields of study, and all of her childhood, and to present day, has been filled with lessons. Her studies have mainly focused on three fields, Linguistics, she is fluent in all major languages of Hyrule, including Zora, Goron, Gerudo and Sheikah. Diplomacy, including (but not limited too) lessons in ethics, dance, music, law and cultural costumes. Finally, there are Academics, with a major focus on warfare, history, geography and magic.
Combat Training: Unknown to most people, Zelda has been trained to defend herself by Impa. Most of the focus has been around the usage of a sword, along with the ability to handle a bow. She has never been one to keen on using these skills and has viewed diplomacy and peace as the most important tools. But even so, a ruler must be ready to defend themselves and their subjects. Her skill with the bow is greater than her skill with a sword. She is not as skilled in battle as many soldiers, but then again, that is not her place. She is a warrior in an army, her role is to inspire that army, and to lead it. In all her advantage is that most people do not know she has this kind of skills, and it has been made sure that it is kept a secret.
