Name: Nozomi Yuzu
Species: Sheikah*
Age: Uncertain
Gender: Female
Physical Appearance:
Background:
Nozomi was formerly one of the few Head Researchers of the Sheikah, something which didn't change until the recent developments some months prior to the present. She took great pride in her job and made strides in her field, helping pass obstacles in development and working late nights on end to solve issues. In principle, she was the ideal researcher, always focused on the betterment through knowledge.
What her peers had failed to notice, however, was her unending love for her work. To Nozomi, there is truly no bounds to how far this technology should go. To her, morality and ethics were artificial barriers, arbitrarily established and limiting the true potential of science. This culminated into a series of covert, personal projects away from prying eyes. At first, it was easy to conduct such things as the materials required were easily moved past the notice of her colleagues.
However, the situation grew complicated when she wanted to experiment with a demonic creature, imprisoned and observed pretty closely. It would be nigh impossible for her to do anything without someone else taking notice. She made pleas and attempts to reason with others so that she could be granted subjects for this test, suggesting outlaws, prisoners and other undesirables in an attempt to find a middle ground. She was refused at every step, and her persistence was risking to cost Nozomi her position and clearance.
What followed was many sleepless nights of debating with herself, unable to accept this outcome. There had to be a way to get what she desired. Surely, they would see that the benefits outweigh the costs, if she could just show them.
And so, Nozomi took a sample from this imprisoned test subject, violating the trust of her colleagues. For some time, she thought she had managed to secure a vital resource slipping their notice. She had big plans for this sample.
Feeling that she could return to her covert projects, Nozomi ventured to a place where the eyes of Hyrule and the Sheikah could not reach as far. The Gerudo Desert. There, she could do her research in peace and quiet. Under the pretense of doing an archeological search for cataloguing and learning from ancient technology lost in the desert, she left for a few weeks.
There, she met a lovely local by the name of Rosa Stellata, who was both a helpful assistant in finding some old technology as well as a valuable and surprisingly willing test subject. Things couldn't possibly improve for the sheikah. She took Rosa to a safe research site and ran an experiment on the gerudo. However, at that moment she realized she had walked into a trap.
The Sheikah had let her go on with this for a while now, after she had taken the sample from the demon without authorization. Compiling a long list of misdemeanors along the way, they now accumulated sufficient proof to put her on trial and strip her of her position.
Outraged, Nozomi attempted to deny it to no effect. Failing at that, she took Rosa and fled, with the sheikah in pursuit. It did not take long until she realized that in her condition, carrying the unconscious gerudo and outnumbered, there was no way to escape from them. She had to leave Rosa somewhere else during the chase, then run off on her own. It stalled them, as a few seemed to remain behind to tend to her.
When the hour grew dire and she knew that capture meant imprisonment or death, she infused herself with the demonic sample, letting her last stand be a defiant and final experiment. It took a few moments, as she was surrounded by her pursuers, and everything went dark. After that there were...fragments. Moments that came and gone in a haze. Cutting down sheikah with claws, fits of rage and finally the deep sting of arrows on her back, like a thousand needles puncturing her until she cried out a final gasp and fell from a height.
She wasn't dead however. But she wasn't Nozomi anymore either.
At that point, Nozomi's past became a mystery. She was found in an alley passed out, by Karina. She didn't speak much when found, at most responding with basic gestures like nods or with a grunt. But something made her follow Karina without question, protecting the leader of the rebellion. As time went on, some words found their back into her vocabulary, but very rarely. She had also been given the nickname 'Wrecker'.
Time passed on and she lived her life as the mysterious, bandaged bodyguard. Where once was vast intelligence there was now near-animalistic instinct and brute force. But every day that passed, Wrecker was starting to have small realizations. Little thoughts that began to piece together her past. In the murky depths of Wrecker's psyche, Nozomi wandered in search of who and what she was.
The latest stirrings of the demonic presence lingering over Hyrule began to affect Wrecker as well. Now, in the darkness, there were eyes opening in its infinite expanse, like guiding stars letting her find her direction. No longer this was merely seeking her place in the darkness, now she could navigate herself through her thoughts with ease. And so, Wrecker became merely a passing thing. A state of metamorphosis, as Nozomi began to remember it all, and came to grips with what she was now. Transcending her origins, a new stage of life more competent and capable than her old, frailer self. And it all just felt so...rewarding. She would now reap the results of crossing all the limits and threshold imposed on her by her lessers...
Relevance: Nozomi is Karina's bodyguard, aiding the rebellion by protecting its leader, and is also a rogue Sheikah researcher, with ties to many other Sheikah in the story.
Skill Set:
Unknowable Physiology
After her experiment, Nozomi's body doesn't by any means follow natural biology. If struck she does not bleed, if stabbed through the chest, it's uncertain if there even is a heart underneath to strike. Her body seems sustained by a skeleton, but even that would be an assumption. If cut, Nozomi's innards look like a shifting, tar-like substance. Nozomi may feel pain, or keel over from overexertion, even limp and move as a wounded person, but her internal biology remains a mystery. Albeit far from invincible, this biology allows her to endure and recover from wounds that would otherwise be fatal.
Drawback: Light Magic affects Nozomi as it would a demon, and for nearly all effects she is treated as one.
Ever Shifting
Nozomi's biology seems melded with Shift technology. Any part of her body seems viable to turn into an experimental piece of technology, though most notably her hair seems to have the natural tendency to let its extremities turn into claws with artificial eyes on their palms.
She may absorb artifacts and technology of that type, effectively melding with it and being able to replicate it anywhere on her body. This process takes time and concentration, so it cannot be done in combat.
Drawback: Anti-Guardian Technology (Whenever it becomes available) affects her as it would any artificial construct made of Sheikah technology.
Weaponized Body
Nozomi has effectively managed to turn herself into a living weapon. Sheikah martial training and the devices she may form within her body make for a formidable combination.
Omnidexterity: All hands that Nozomi may form upon her body act as dominant hands. She may transform tips of the strands of her hair into hands and even her own hand and feet, allowing them to work like claws.
Superior Mobility and Reach: Aside from better agility and training in acrobatics, Nozomi's hair strands may extend, and in combination with her claws function as limbs for walking, climbing, grappling and swinging.
Artificial Eyes: Able to freely switch between a beam firing mode with longer charging time and an explosive blast and a bolt firing mode with short bursts. Harnessing a multitude of them allows for multiple target aiming at the cost of overall power. As a secondary feature, these artificial eyes also give her sight.(See also Drawbacks)
Sheikah Arts: The art of moving unseen and blending with the darkness, sheikah weapon training as well as honed traditional techniques like the Deku Nut trick.
Sheikah Weapon Training: Though instructed on a basic level on the workings of the most known sheikah weaponry, Nozomi specialized herself in the use of a Serpentine Spear. Albeit far from mastery, given her new capacities, it became a weapon well suited for her use.
Drawbacks
Overload: Overuse of beam weaponry can cause the volatile Shift tech to overheat and burst, destroying the limb (or hair strand) housing it and setting it aflame. This drawback on its own is rarer, but often triggered by other conditions.
Perfect Defense: Use of certain shields(or similarly resilient and reflective equipment) as well as proper tactics allow others to reflect or even deflect beam weaponry back at its origin, causing a break as in Overload.
Arrows: A well timed arrow or similar piercing projectile can strike the artificial eyes and cause an Overload.
Seeker of Science
As a former high ranking member of the Sheikah's research teams, Nozomi had much knowledge on technology development and secret projects, as well as the knowledge to replicate some of it with the proper materials and tools, such as access to a Shift Furnace.
Though she dabbled in many fields like her peers, her specialization was biology. Many information entries on creatures during the development of the Slate project are owed to her and her team's work. In more questionable projects, she has gone so far as to experiment alterations on live subjects, something which ultimately resulted in her own current state of affairs.
Gaze into the Abyss
After awakening from her dormant state as Wrecker, Nozomi has contained the full extent of her transformation through her knowledge. With ancient Sheikah arts and meditation, her connection to the grander, outworldly power that changed her remains sealed. This process was lengthy and divided in seven stages. They are mental barriers, referred to as 'gates', protecting the inner sanctum of her being.
However, at times this power can be of use to Nozomi, so opening these gates are an interesting prospect. The more are opened, the more she has access to eldritch lore, forgotten rituals and occult powers. Illusions, misdirections, manipulation and words carrying power that would warp and boggle the mind of lesser beings.
This is a story-related ability, tied to narrative and powers that may allow unique interactions or change in dynamics between Nozomi and NPCs or Nozomi and PCs, permission and agreement withstanding.
Drawback: The more gates are opened, the more Nozomi herself becomes vulnerable to this outside power from which she draws these powers. Her weakness to light magic and blessed weapons is heightened. Her presence becomes easier to detect by those who can seek demons, or demons who can sense other demons. And ultimately, she becomes affected, for good or ill, by the effects of the Blood Moon and other cosmological events which affect monsters. With all gates opened, Nozomi is strongly affected by all these drawbacks. Closing the gates back is possible, but the process takes time and concentration of the likes which cannot be afforded in the middle of other activities but only in a safe, resting place.
*Sheikah is an accurate description of her species, but given the circumstances she is a strange amalgam of other things.
