Name: Lord Cervantes Braum
Title: Duke
Species: Undead Hylian
Age: Immortal (Around 300 years)
Gender: Male
Physical Appearance:
Lord Braum is a tall, handsome man, standing about 1.95m tall (6'4) with black-blueish hair, pale skin and glowing, red eyes. He brandishes a dark blue tunic, a high-collared, hooded coat of the same color with the inside of his clothes being deep red. He also sports shoulderpads adorned with skulls and raven feathers, dark blue pants, boots and gloves, and his clothing is held together by golden clasps and a ruby inlaid in his belt. He also brandishes a white neckerchief, giving him a refined look of someone with high class and noble blood.
Background: Born many, MANY moons ago, the house of Braum was a rich, influential and powerful noble family in Hyrule with a tendency for dabbling in crime or in dark arts. Cervantes was no exception, an exceptional mage already at young age due to excellent teachers (which his parents naturally paid for). Despite studying various magical subjects, experimenting with all manners of elements it wasn't until he tried to forbidden arts of blood- and shadow magic that he realized he was naturally gifted in them. He spent years learning and experimenting, hearing of a way to achieve immortality. However he was eventually found out, and due to his experiments and dabbling in dark arts, Braum was exiled and stripped of rank. Furious, he retreated to his mansion where he began to work on finalizing a ritual he had began a while back. He sent his soldiers to kidnap young maidens, using their blood to fuel the dark magic he practiced and eventually managed to attain immortality.
His crimes drew the attention of the Crown, and they sent soldiers to deal with him. When they arrived at his estate, they encountered a powerful blood-mage, a vampire Lord who easily overpowered them and turned them against their former masters. After that, many adventurers and mercenaries came to stop him, but with each band of adventurers they sent, he became more and more powerful until he became a genuine threat to the crown.
The crown sent their most exceptional adventurers to stop him, but the heroes were unable to defeat the Duke. However they DID managed to use powerful sealing magic, sealing him in is cellar and so his own mansion became his tomb. He spent years in his basement, going through his reserves of blood but when it inevitable ran out, Braum went into a long torpor and disappeared from the world. Many years later a bunch of reckless archaeologists found their way into his old, decrepit mansion and made their way into the basement. There they found his resting place, and beliving him harmless, broke open his coffin and began examine the now almost corpse-like creature inside. Using what little strength he had left he overpowered one of them and drank. He drank like he had never drunk before and drained the man to the very last drop. Now restored he turned the other archaeologist into one of his thralls, and began an era of rebuilding, both his mansion and his armies. Now that Duke Cervantes Braum has returned, he strives to get his revenge on the descendants of the royal family and nobles who cast him out and bring the entire world to heel.
Relevance: Braum is a powerful, serious threat to Hyrule. While he has some limitations to his movements, where he can be and move, he is a formidable opponent for anyone who encounters him, and as such his relevance is rather high, especially if he gets involved in the ongoings of Hyrule which is bound to happen sooner rather than later.
Skill Set:
Eyes and Ears everywhere
Lord Braum has a network of associates and connections all throughout the land. This gives him a reason to travel the world, gathering intel on ongoing events, as well as giving him places to sleep during the day so he can send lackeys to do his bidding. If called for for story purposes, Cervantes will be out of commission and control of a minor NPC will be assumed for the relevant topic, which will carry out his tasks and errands. One example would be for business in the Desert, which is a place Cervantes will not go unless he HAS to.
Unholy Appeal His unholy powers makes his words more appealing to those who hear them, and he can hypnotize and charm those who hear them by looking people into their eyes, swaying people around him. Against player characters this only work with player permission.
Unholy Physiology: Braum has used blood magic to turn himself into an unholy monster. This has granted him supernatural strength, speed and resilience, as well as the ability to turn into mist or into a bat. His body heals itself, regenerating rapidly over time. If he has access to fresh blood this ability is severely empowered, and the longer he goes WITHOUT it, the more it weakens, but it always work, to a lesser or greater extent. With his tremendous power, however, comes some drawbacks (mentioned below). He is also strongly resilient to regular weaponry, and is best fought with either magic or blessed/holy weapons.
Maestro Sanguinaris:Cervantes can use blood- or shadow magic to fight, and can conjure up monsters to fight by his side. His summons are as follows:
Vire, whom he use as a personal servant, regular and ice Keese, as well as black and white Wolfos, and ravens. He is able to see through the eyes of servants he creates and even speaking through them, allowing them to serve as his spies if they are within 10 miles of him.
He can create bolts of shadow, or weapons of blood to fight with, fly, teleport, walk up walls and utilize a terrifying arsenal of magics as well as his clawed hands. Included in his magic is the ability to alter his appearance to look like other people he has seen before, and while it DOES allowing him to alter his voice to sound like them, he cannot copy their mannerisms and has to rely on acting and deception to get by if he takes on the appearance of someone else.
His superior strength allows him to hold his own to most mortals, but most of Hyrule's greater heroes would have means to even the odds against him. If he consumes or absorbs the blood of those around him he becomes more powerful, his regenerative ability being greatly boosted, so him being on a battlefield would make him very, very dangerous while fighting him one-on-one might be more desireable. If he feeds HIS blood to a normal mortal, he can turn people into ghouls. The extent of his magical arsenal is vast, so if one is to fight him, it is best to come prepared.
His bites also spreads the plague of Vampirism to the target, turning them into a vampire within 24 hours unless treated. On PC's this can work faster or not at all, and is a mostly a story-related tool.
Cervantes if really hard to kill off, and is bound to his resting place. If he is destroyed he turns into mist, and if he can reach a safe place to recover without catching sunlight or being exposed to Light magic, he can regenerate and return to unlife. The only true way to permanently kill Braum is to destroy him where he rests while regenerating.
Weaknesses:
Being a vampire, Cervantes' great powers comes with some major drawbacks.
He is vulnerable to Light- and Fire Magic, these elements temporarily disable his regenerative ability for 2 posts.
Sunlight: If he is out in direct sunlight with any skin exposed he will catch fire and burn to ash if he remains in sunlight for 3 posts. If he covers any exposed skin, he can operate in Sunlight, but all of his abilities are weakened.
Stakes: A wooden stake to the heart will severely slow him down and eventually paralyze him if not handled.
