CHARACTER RULES
These are the rules for characters used for in-character role-play. If you have any questions, please contact any member of the site staff. Most rules are not flexible, but the administration of ToH RPG is not unreasonable and will listen to suggestions.

Player Characters and Character Creation
Each player is allowed a maximum of
Upon filling out your character roster to the maximum count, you are then allowed to only apply for another character in order to replace one of your current role-playing characters, with the exception of at the start of a new chapter, at which point character rosters will be cleared.
Additionally, while each character is a separate case, we strongly ask that you give each of your applied characters a chance before archiving it and moving on to the next character. Take some time with your new character, and then decide the next month what you would like to do. Of course, in moments of mass reapplication, such as at the start of a new chapter or a mass reset of some sort specifically granting this, you are able to remake or replace any character in all the slots available without needing to wait the aforementioned month.
Special Note: The character limit has been temporarily reduced from six to a maximum number of two while we work on revitalizing the forum, and strongly urge for the gathering of characters under a party. We appreciate your understanding and hope you have fun writing with everyone!
Character Approvals
Character applications will be reviewed by your peers, fellow rp members like yourself. They may request changes, provide suggestions for ways to improve upon what they see, or provide other sorts of feedback, and once they feel the character sheet sufficiently fulfills the required fields in the application template, they may provide their approval. Once your character has received approval from two other members, the staff will then move your character sheet into the Approved Characters section.
Please keep in mind that someone who has provided approval to a character before its final approval may at any time retract their approval if they so wish should they have grown dissatisfied or wish to provide extended feedback.
Even if now members can approve characters, they must abide by the site's rules. After all, this entire topic would be pointless otherwise. Approvals that don't follow the rules are effectively voided. If a majority is displeased with a character (three other members), then approval may be temporarily rescinded until the issues those members have with your character are resolved. This does not mean that your character will be scrapped by the staff, but that it has been agreed that enough other members believe that your character requires further adjusting before being ready for role-play.
Once your character is approved, please be sure to list them in your signature. There are only 500 characters to work with in your signature, so we will not ask that you link back to the character sheets, we merely ask that you keep your signature up-to-date with all your current active characters at all times for reference purposes. If we find it is not up-to-date, we will contact you to provide a reminder to do so.
Update Approvals
Character update applications will be reviewed by your peers, fellow rp members like yourself. They may request changes, provide suggestions for ways to improve upon what they see, or provide other sorts of feedback, and once they feel the character update sufficiently fulfills the required fields in the application template. Once the update has received approval from two other members, you will then be given the go ahead to go in and edit your character sheet and adjust it as needed.
Please keep in mind that, someone who has provided approval to an update before its final approval may at any time retract their approval if they so wish should they have grown dissatisfied or wish to provide extended feedback.
Keep in mind that while updates in a character's history or physical appearance as the story progresses may not require an update application unless it is of major note, we ask that you do not update anything else aside from what has been mentioned in the update application when going through an applied update. If major changes occur that have not been through this process, we will ask you to undo the changes made.
On one final note, because a character sheet may be updated many times as the story progresses it is recommended, though not required, that you keep copies of each individual version so as to have ideas of how the character developed should you want to look back on them as a reference.
Canon characters
A special rule applies to character canonical to (or officially from) The Legend of Zelda series. You may only apply for a maximum of two canon characters at a time. However, they will be granted permission to have access to all their abilities from the original Zelda games. Please be sure to keep in mind the current setting, timeline era, and chapter when choosing to select a canon character to role-play, as characters that have absolutely no chance of appearing in the chosen setting will have an extremely difficult time being approved.
Species
Characters' species must all be from the canon Zelda games. Sub-races from those provided species are allowed, such as a White Wolfos from the Wolfos monsters, Labrynnian from the Hylian species, and so on. When choosing your species, however, please keep in mind that they ought to be relevant to the current timeline era, chapter, and setting. For example, you will likely not find a Kikwi or Mogma in the present day. On occasion, we may allow for exceptions, though only if very detailed explanations as to how they are present is provided.
Rip-offs
Copying copyrighted characters from any sort of game or original characters created by others is forbidden. Laws may protect them, and copying characters created by others, be they from fan artists or fanfic writers despite not being under a copyright is considered highly immoral and is therefore abhorred. This expands even to the characters of other members on the forum, meaning that characters with looks, names, abilities, etc. that closely enough resemble that of another member's characters will be in violation of this rule. Unless given very express permission, no such thing is allowed.
One thing is to draw inspiration from and make similar powers but with considerable and reasonable differences. The other is simply rename, very slightly modify and put it up as your original creation.
Forbidden Powers, Techniques, Possessions, and Weaponry
Characters must be centered on the Zelda-verse; therefore, no overly ridiculous powers or beings are allowed. The following character types and abilities are forbidden or heavily restricted: Powerful underlings, complete immortality, god-like behavior, close or long-range firearms, shift weaponry, power of cataclysmic scale.
What we mean by:
Powerful Underlings: Creatures not truly listed under a character's power, therefore being outside of its balanced formula. More specifically, this bans the ability to get random incredibly powerful creatures without the extent of their power being listed.
That said, characters with powerful summoning abilities and specified summons are allowed, and you may be allowed to apply for a temporary boss character using the character application template following expanded in-character story development and staff approval. These will typically be allowed only for singular fights (unless they manage to become a recurring boss), will not impact your character roster, are not permitted for role-play outside of their chosen battles, and must be earned.
Complete Immortality: Characters are not allowed to be completely indestructible. Even some of the most powerful beings in the Zelda-verse– such as the Goddess Hylia, Demise, and Ganondorf –had methods that led to their undoing and were ultimately able to killed as anyone else.
However, this does not mean that relative immortality is disallowed. Characters with incredible longevity, powers of agelessness, enhanced durability, and so on are certainly permitted, given that their method of doing so is properly provided.
Firearms: While firearms outside of immobile cannons have been minimal in the Zelda series for the most part, due to their inclusion in the Hyrule Warriors series, we have since elected to include them in our Zelda universe. This covers old fashioned firearms, such as revolvers and muskets.
However, as they are such old models, their accuracy will hardly be like a modern gun's and reloading will be a slow and laborious process, making them very inefficient next to other ranged weapons such as bows, crossbows, and slingshots. Additionally, they are not likely to be widely available to the common populace, likely being restricted to military personnel and the like, so please keep their societal restrictions in mind.
Shift Weaponry: Commonly known as 'Ancient' gear in Breath of the Wild, a technology invented long ago by the Sheikah, Shift Gear will also be highly restricted in this chapter due to their high-tech and extremely powerful nature and their early development within this chapter's setting. Being a Sheikah invention, gear or technology made with Shift technology will be available in very limited quantities to very limited individuals.
Powers of Cataclysmic scale: No balancing would ever justify being able to cause massive destruction or change on a considerable area of the world. No floods, earthquakes, eruptions, tornadoes, or widespread corruption.
However, keeping in mind story, such catastrophic powers will be permitted to limited powerful characters tied to the very center and core plot of each chapter. Note that characters with such powers will need to have it noted that these powers are very much tied to the story and can only be used on occasions when it is relevant to the story. In extreme situations where the staff finds such powers being abused, they will take action and rescind character approval.
The Triforce
[TBD]
No Character Killing or Affecting a Character Undesirably
PCs cannot be killed off without player permission, so do not worry about it, your character is going to live as long as you will it to be.
It is forbidden to also slice off limbs or affect a character's body or in any other game experience altering way without member permission. Remember to respect each others' characters. In case a character is forced into a logical spot, against the player's will, that the character MUST die, something will save it. Should an extreme deadlock come about, the situation will be permitted to be resolved through post edits and going back to prevent what might have put a character in such a position. After all, this is one of the most important rules, and no matter what, it shouldn't have any loophole to allow a PC to die without the player wishing it to.
If the player puts that a certain weakness or power can kill them, they've made their choice to not have him under such protection. (At least in what refers to death. Losing limbs, etc would be protections still in effect, unless one had a weakness for such specific effects.)
