The captain watched his foe fall with sick glee. Lordly types were always the best to take down, and Kar'ka have savored literally tearing this one off their high horse. He winced slightly as he shifted weight onto his right leg, a hot stream of blood rushing down his thigh. Seemed like the wound bit deeper than he had thought. Reaching onto his belt, Kar'ka wrestled a leather canteen from its holster and popped the cork from its mouth to place the waterskin to his own. He took several heavy gulps of the brew and filled his cheeks still before pulling the drink away. The Zora spit the contents of his mouth onto the bleeding gash, his teeth grinding from the burning pain that followed. His gray claws wrapped about Abzu just beneath her head, its wicked tip glowing with an eerie blue. Without hesitation, he pressed the burning spearhead onto the injury and cauterized it.
A scream sounded from the edge of the battlefield, and Kar'ka attention was drawn to his men at the edge of a cliff. "You boys quit playin' around. The head honcho's been done in, finish up the others and start lootin'. I'm not payin' you lot... to..." His barking orders trailed off as a dark figure began to rise from beyond the cliff, rising larger and larger than Kar'ka expected each second. The two pirates that had reached over the ledge seemed to freeze in place upon sighting the beast, though their friend beneath was still screaming to be pulled up. The hanging pirate wrestled his grip from his fallen compatriot, adopting a self-centered sort of survival as pirates often do. While the concussed bandit fell back into the black lights, shrieking expletives at the top of his lungs, the other was pulled back up to the rocky ledge and the two swept their crossbows up from the ground once more. Each turned and ran in fear from the approaching demon, while the one dropped into the lake was swallowed mercilessly by the darkness.
While this occured, Cut had launched into a stampede of his own. "No worries!" he shouted in reply to his new ally, his greedy eyes following the running woman with the mask. His peg leg clopped on the rock floor with a rapid pace, and he managed to keep pace with the girl in spite of his multiple disabilities. "Boss!" Cut called out as he saw the target approach the fallen leader of the knights. "This is the floozy with the mask! She killed Stab, to boot! Let's scoop her up, you and me!"
Kar'ka shook himself out of his momentary bewilderment upon seeing the giant creature approach from the lake. Looking over to the one that had first emerged from the magic gateway, he watched in confusion as she placed the familiar mask upon the fallen knight. The response was not what he was expecting. As his fallen enemy began writhing unnaturally on the ground, Kar'ka tightened the grip on his polearms and strode forward menacingly. A spray of water fell upon Cut, Kar'ka, and the rest. While Cut looked over and noticed the terrifying creature for the first time with appropriate fear, Kar'ka felt refreshed by the water on his flesh. He approached the fleeing girl and the twisting knight, towering above them with animal eyes. "I've lost some good men for this piece of wood here," the captain stated darkly, raising the black spear Tiamat to his masked foe and Abzu to the one who placed the mask. "More importantly, I've lost some good rum treating this little scratch on me leg. Someone's gonna have to pay for that, lass. This bunch really wants you for something, eh? I'm guessing you'd be worth a good amount to them. Lucky for you, we've got an uninvited guest needs dealing with. Stay put and don't put up a struggle with my lad Cut here, and things will go smoothly. Can't promise anything if you fry up any more of my crew, though."
Pulling away his spears from the two, Kar'ka turned to look at the Acuablin with a predatory glare. Like when he had first met the knights, he leaned back and aimed Abzu with a careful pause. Taking two powerful stride forward, Kar'ka quickly bent forward and launched the blue lance for the creature's head. It would seem almost subconsciously that the pirate captain had targetted the glowing lamp dangling in front of the beast. At either flank, the two crossbow-wielding pirates had adopted spots of light cover and began launching their remaining supply of bolts at the demonic abomination. Cut's attention seemed to be drawn to all manner of places, the events transpiring more quickly than his blunt mind could keep up with, but the orders of his boss seemed to cut through the fog. He stepped forward to the foreign woman and the masked corpse, looking disgusted by the weird movements of the body. "So ya won't hand o'er th' mask but ya'll give it to a cadaver, eh?" the patchwork pirate said in equal measures amused and irritated. "Enough fun 'n' games, girlie. Give me th' mask 'n' stop runnin'. You're quite outnumbered, see?" He held up his rusty club to the woman, his eagerness to use it written on his ugly face.
